NOUVEAU THUILLE IS DONE!?!?!?





With both layouts familiar to those of you who played #LittleBurnedMaiden AND hand-drawn art befitting the cozy horror of #AllThePromisedBurn, Nouveau Thuille's new art is FINALLY done. I'm very pleased with the way all the Noble Houses' Manors have turned out -- I think the families' personalities and societal functions do actually kinda come through in their designs. The Puppetmaster's Workshop has kinda a silhouette problem -- where the shapes of everything is a little muddy -- but I don't think I wanna spend the time to fix it because the player literally never has to go in there. And also, if the ALGORITHMS can tell that there are... uh... we'll call 'em """dolls""" hung from meat hooks and dissected on the tables in there, any Streamer who plays my game is gonna get demonetized. Soooo I gotta tone it back. But the cafe is nice :D
Incidentally, if you look at the map count, I have completed 53 maps for this game. And there are 53 more to go...

That being said: If you're following my Bluesky (where I do my daily updates), then you'll know everything is pain and takes too long. So as part of this complaint that everything takes too long... I went through and shrunk a bunch of maps for the South. It won't be as "immersive" maybe now cuz a bunch of the hallways have been cut down. But on the bright side, it'll be done sooner. And you know what? I can ALWAYS just replace the art later. (This is what I tell myself to feel less bad lol) The locations are on an Egyptian scale -- scaled to how important people feel like they are! See? It's emotionally realisticccccc and it's definitely not just because I've got a deadline...
For the rest of this week, I think I'll do the Demonic Royal Family Bedrooms and the Selkie Isle, as these locations are necessary for the first half of the story. And if I decide to cut the game in half and just make two games (Because if I'm gonna make a flop, I might as well make two! :P), then it'll be important that these get done.
This Devlog is a little late so I apologize (not that any of you care, I'm sure) but I really wanted to be able to tell you that Nouveau Thuille's art is done lol. Gotta make sure the girlfailure gamedev has SOME successes, right?
I've been realllyyyyy leaning into the self-depreciating humor lately and I wonder if it's bad for my mental health. But, as I noted in last week's itchio exclusive devlog, I also have been holding myself to like... really high standards and that's not sustainable. But I honestly don't know where the balance is. It's tough when you're trying to set the bar for yourself! I hope this isn't coming off as whiny cuz I know how lucky I am to be in this position at all, but it's also a challenge emotionally that I wasn't ready for. And I'm grateful to have these problems, as opposed to others but... idk, grass is always greener and such.
